Balancing Art,
The Art of Arranging Balanced Objects That
This one hobby is unique. Constructing objects of various
shapes and sizes to find the point of balance. Through the dexterity of Heru
Hendaran's hand (37), objects can be arranged vertically stacked without
falling.
Heru is one of Balancer who joined in Balancing Art
Indonesia. A community of balancing technique activists whose existence has
been long enough in Indonesia.
As a balancer, Heru who is domiciled in Lembang, West
Bandung regency, West Java, is admitted, in doing balancing takes patience,
adaptation, breathing, and skilled hands.
"Early on for a long time, it can be 2-3 hours even
longer, but after 5 minutes it can be arranged," Heru told Liputan6.com,
Monday, February 5, 2018.
Heru was trying to practice how to arrange the stone. At
first he composed the roughest stone at the bottom, until the stone is large
enough and oval.
At the very end, then a stone with a slightly pointed tip
is placed. Less than 10 minutes of stone arrangement was finally formed.
"Sometimes it's not a matter of composing, but when
choosing the character of rocks," said Heru.
In addition to stone medium, balancing art can also be
applied to other objects, such as bottles, coins, and others. Or even can
combine stacking some objects.

Can Compose Objects
Heru daily works as a cleaning product salesman. He
traveled from hotel to hotel. Outside of his work, he is a driver of balancing
art. The objects of various shapes and sizes are arranged vertically without
falling.
"Actually, balancing activities can be done by
anyone and anywhere, the most important is the willingness to arrange the
objects themselves," said Heru.
This Bandung original man claimed his interest to pursue
balancing art starting from his hobbies visiting interesting places of
interest. He often finds stones in interesting locations, though not in a
composed position.
However, after familiar balancing art techniques, since
two years he was more interested in deepening balancing art and practice it in
certain places.
"I like to run basically, run everywhere, to the
river, the hill, especially in the sights, I see there are many stones, but not
directly arranged, it becomes a habit," he explained.
Balancer is a hobby of these streets mentioned the river
and the hills are two favorite locations to do balancing art activities.
"If in the river longer choose the stone because the
character of the rocks more slippery, if in the hill the challenge is a strong
wind, but both are memorable," he said.
His artistic work is often uploaded on his Instagram's
social media @ nheru_aisitheru. In addition to the ability to arrange, cool
scenery so consider Heru when performing the action.
Peter Juhl, photographer and also balancing activist
mentions, stone piling technique can be learned by everyone. Beginners can try
with some round stone and one side is quite flat. Then start by piling slowly.
After success with three or more stones, unpack the
composition and repeat it with a different stone composition, "Juhl said
quoted from the rockbalancingart page.
If you're getting used to it, do it with a pointed stone.
The most important thing to do is to set the breath to establish the pointed
angle.

Bandung artist, Tisna Sanjaya, admitted balancing art is
a creative way by individuals and groups.
"It is a creative work of art, beautiful from a
local rock medium blend with water, close and melt with nature," said
Tisna.
Lecturer of the Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD) ITB
assess, balancing art is not feasible dikusicrikkan and considered shirk.
Media and freedom in conveying art messages are part of
freedom of expression.
"So the art of the natural stone materials, that is
the art of participatory installation, is a creative art, through art they are
able to convey the spirit, the critical power that care about the
environment," he explained.
Balancer, the designation for the hobbyist of these
balanced objects, in the world quite a lot. There are Michael Grab, Adrian
Gray, Nick Seur, Bill Dan, and Stefan Fischer.
While in Indonesia, there are two communities that
accommodate the balancers, namely Rock Balance Indonesia and Balancing Rock
Indonesia.
The stone-accumulating artists have works that seem odd,
but beautiful. One of them is Michael Grab who termed this art more
specifically, gravity glue or gravity glue.
Of course not glue connotatively. Grab relies on the
earth's gravity in arranging stones. No doubt, if you see his works at a glance
like the result of an edited photo.
Not only that, the pile of rocks in such a way, to form a
balance for some people is remarkable. Because stone is one of the primitive
tools that are also part of the past, so it is associated with spiritual value.
"Most of us know this art is done abroad only when
in fact in Indonesia also exist," said Heru.
For that, Heru said, information on balancing art should
be socialized. "I hope that with the community, people are more familiar
with balancing art because anyone can do it," he said.
