Airplanes that have been "retired"
from the airline turned out to be thrown into this place.
Ever wondered where the
plane went after no longer used to fly for good?
Boeing 747s especially
took their "retired" planes from airlines like Delta and United, but
did not eliminate them.
About 90 miles east of Los
Angeles International Airport there is a small town called Victorville, which
houses the Southern California Logistics Airport as well as the
"burial" of Boeing 747 aircraft. It is also known as 'boneyard'.
Aircraft from various
airlines, including United, British Airways, Monarch and even FedEx aircraft
based in Victorville, live their quiet lives on land without passengers or
luggage.
Unfortunately, people are
forbidden to see or get around in this place. But Zach Honig from The Points
Guy had a helicopter tour to see what it looks like. He found all the planes
parked neatly in line.
Of course, this plane does
not just "sit" at the airport forever. Some may get a second chance
to fly with another airline while others are canceled for parts reasons.
