BANGKOK -
The Kingdom of Thailand states that His Majesty Raja Maha Vajiralongkorn
Bodindradebayavarangkun (66 years) officially announced his marriage to General
Suthida Vajiralongkorn na Ayudhya, who has now been named Queen Suthida.
His marriage
is in line with royal laws and traditions. Queen Suthida then has the right to
all the benefits of the rank and status of the royal family.
According to
palace television news, reported by Bangkok News, the coronation of the royal
wedding took place at Tahornsathan Ampornsathan Hall in Dusit Palace at 16.32
local time. After the royal announcement was read, Queen Suthida gave flowers
to His Majesty who bestowed royal water and fortune leaves to be inserted over
his ears
The king
also gave the highest royal decorations during his reign. The king and queen's
wedding show aired in the Royal News segment which was broadcast on all Thai
television channels.
Furthermore,
the District Head of Dusit brought a marriage certificate to be signed by the
royal couple. His Excellency Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, President of the
Advisory Council, and statesman General Prem Tinsulanonda then signed as
witnesses.
Vajiralongkorn
had been married and divorced three times. He has seven children.
Vajiralongkorn
is known by the title Raja Rama X. He became Thailand's constitutional king
after the death of his respected father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej in October
2016 after 70 years on the throne.
In 2014,
Vajiralongkorn appointed Suthida Tidjai, a former Thai Airways flight attendant
as deputy commander of his escort unit. Some royal observers and foreign media
associate Suthida to have a romantic story with the king, but the palace had
never recognized the relationship between them.
Raja made
Suthida the full general in December 2016 and the deputy commander of the
king's personal guard in 2017. He also made him a Thanpuying (royal title
meaning Lady).
The king
ascended to the throne after the death of his father. His official coronation
followed the mourning period for King Bhumibol. He was cremated a year after
his death. He will be officially crowned in complicated Buddhist and Brahmin
ceremonies on Saturday. Next, followed by the procession the next day.
