An island appeared on the surface of the water in Tanimbar Islands Regency, Maluku, after an earthquake with a magnitude of more than 7 shook the area in the early hours of Tuesday.

"The findings in Teinaman Village, North Tanimbar District, an earthquake with a magnitude of more than 7 resulted in a pile of material forming an island," said the Head of Teinaman Village, North Tanimbar District, Bony Kelmaskossu, when contacted from Ambon, Tuesday.

He said this phenomenon caused the entire Teinaman Village community to panic and fear so they temporarily fled.

"The policy that was adopted, we directed the community to temporarily evacuate," said Bony Kelmaskossu.

He hopes that the government and related technical agencies will follow up on the phenomenon that occurred in the village.

The Coordinator of the BMKG Class I Ambon Geophysics Station Data and Information Division, Luthfy Pary stated, regarding the island phenomenon that appeared in Teinaman Village, his party could not provide more detailed information because it needed a more in-depth study.

A term similar to this phenomenon is known as "mud volcano", but requires more in-depth study.

A tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of more than 7 occurred on Tuesday morning. The epicenter of the earthquake is located at coordinates 7.37° LS; 130.23° East Longitude, or to be precisely located in the sea at a distance of 136 Km to the Northwest of West Southeastern Maluku, Maluku at a depth of 130 km.

Taking into account the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was of a medium type due to the subduction activity of the Banda Sea.

The building of SDN 4 Taman Sari, Medas Bentaur Hamlet, Gunung Sari, West Lombok, NTB, which was built using bricks made of recycled plastic is claimed to be earthquake-resistant.

"If a natural disaster such as an earthquake later occurs, it will still sway but be elastic," said the Principal of SDN 4 Taman Sari, Maksun, Wednesday (16/6/2021).

If an earthquake occurs and children are indoors, they still have a chance to save themselves.

"Later, if it's too big, it won't collapse like a normal building. That's why we are trying to use materials like this because it's a bit prone to disasters here," said Maksun.

The head of the Pelita Foundation, Satriawan Amri, said that the plastic bricks or eco blocks used are tough, so they are quite safe in the event of an earthquake.

"God willing, it is strong, because there are no points of cracking. Because it is tough. If an earthquake the cracks spread, if it is tough. God willing, it can withstand earthquakes," said Satriawan.

Apart from being earthquake-resistant, the use of recycled plastic bricks can be a solution to turning plastic waste into something useful.

Communities can also use plastic waste to be sold at processing factories.

"The work is fast, labor costs are short, and don't use sand, don't use cement," said Satriawan.

Meanwhile, the drawback of this material, it will burn if exposed to fire. "If the sunlight is still safe," said Satriawan.

SDN 04 Taman Sari is the first plastic block school in the world, which was initiated by Classroom of Hope (Australia) in collaboration with Block Solutions (Finland), Pelita Foundation Lombok, and the Regional Government of NTB.

Currently, recycled plastic bricks for school construction are shipped directly from Finland.

The eco-block raw material used consists of recycled plastic waste and wood powder.

"All 100 percent of plastic waste, but because in Finland there is a shortage of raw materials for plastic waste, it is mixed with sawdust from sawdust," explained Satriawan.

In the future, if a plastic brick manufacturing factory is established in NTB, 100 percent of the materials used will be recycled plastic waste.

Apart from SDN 4 Taman Sari, it is planned that there will be four more schools in North Lombok Regency which will be built using recycled plastic brick raw materials.

"We plan to go to KLU, there are 4 schools to be built," said Satriawan.
