KOMPAS.com – Bear milk is being hunted, because it is thought that it can ward off Covid-19. As a result, the price of milk soared and the stock was difficult in the market. The video of some people fighting for milk at a supermarket has also gone viral on social media.
However, it's not just bear milk. Previously, there was a vitamin C product that was also reported by a number of rare netizens on the market.
In fact, Invermectin, which currently has obtained a clinical trial permit in 8 hospitals in Indonesia for the treatment of Covid-19, is also widely sought after and widely sold at high prices in the community.
In e-commerce, the price of Ivermectin per strip was valued at up to IDR 550,000 per strip. Even though there is no clarity regarding the function of this drug to overcome Covid-19.
In the community itself, the hunt for Bear Milk, one of which is the emergence of the belief that this milk is efficacious to ward off the corona virus which is currently a pandemic in the world.
Drinking milk doesn't mean you're immune
Seeing this phenomenon, a lecturer at the Health Nutrition Study Program, Faculty of Medicine UGM, Lili Arsanti Lestari, said that actually if a person's body immunity is good, someone can fight the virus themselves.
However, he stressed, it does not mean that when a person consumes bear milk, he will automatically have immunity to the virus even though the milk contains vitamin D.
"But don't just drink Bear Brand milk, your immunity can also be increased by consuming other healthy foods," said Lili as quoted from Kompas.com, Saturday (3/7/2021).
Lili said there are many other sources of healthy eating that come from protein, namely eggs, fish, meat, and vegetable protein such as tempeh.
In addition, he said that for a healthy body a person also needs to consume sources of vitamins and minerals such as fruits and vegetables.
He added that milk does have a good nutritional content that contains protein and minerals that are beneficial for the body's immunity.
But he stressed this does not mean one has to choose one particular type of milk. "But it doesn't have to be Bear Brand, other milk is also good," he said.
Panic buying phenomenon
The occurrence of panic buying in Indonesia is not only happening this time when Covid-19 cases soar.
During the early days of the pandemic, people also experienced panic buying with the hoarding of masks which had an impact on the high price of masks.
Sociologist from Sebelas Maret State University (UNS) Surakarta Drajat Tri Kartono assessed that this kind of panic that occurred in the community was a demonstration effect.
This happens because of the imitation of other people who see other people flocking to buy a product.
According to him, this could be influenced by the negative information that developed in the community.
"This means that there is information that encourages a rush to occur. The negative information does not mean bad things, it is information that is spread but does not match the reality that is happening," he explained, quoted from Kompas.com, June 4, 2021.
He said that panic buying could actually be prevented by controlling information.
"Unless the goods are in actual scarcity, for example, oxygen is a factory compared to the needs of hospitals, it's not balanced," he said.
"That's the real thing. So we have to separate panic buying because of the demonstration effect and punic buying because the goods are needed and not available," he continued.
